EME2040 Education and Technology

     I am not exactly sure how often i will use surveys or excel tools as a teacher. Teaching a language is a bit different then other subjects, it's an elective, so it gives me a little more room to do things as I like; instead of having strict regulations about the subject because there is no standardized tests for electives. When I do use it though, I will try to make it as easy as possible because I do not know how to operate them that well myself.     I find it interesting how people are wanting to incorporate technology and new tools into their classrooms and their classroom lesson plans. I like to know that other people would like to incorporate technology into their classroom, just because I do not think I will use a lot of technology in my classroom and I know its important for students to have these skills.       So a "Flipped Classroom" is something I absolutely dislike. I have been in several different flipped classrooms in college, Spanish 2203 and Spanish 2204 were the two flipped classes I had and I can personally say I did not learn anything and if I did I did not remember it in the long run. Also, my fiancee is in Medical School and his first two years of medical school they did a flipped classroom style of learning, for for the whole two years I wanted him and his friends struggle to understand information that absolutely could not understand on their own and no one was actually teaching any information. I think that it is a good idea in theory but I have seen how many times it does not work and the information does not stick in someones mind the same way.      There are many adaptive technologies for students with disabilities, some which I knew about and others that i just heard/learned of in the chapter and in the podcast. One that I found interesting was, Talented and Gifted Students, (TAG). I did not know or did not remember this was grade school so i thought it was a really good adaptive technology to read up on. " For talented and gifted (TAG) students, computer technology can provide access to information and stimulating resources at appropriately challenging levels. Although gifted students do not need support or remediation for minimal skills, they do need continual challenges to maintain interest and motivation to meet their personal potentials.      So far I have not really liked the twitter assignment. I do not use social media much and i have never had a twitter until this class, so I find it very difficult to remember to post twice a week on twitter. I also am a Spanish major and have five 4000 level Spanish classes this semester which makes it even harder for me to remember about the twitter. I have found a few good articles and such on twitter, however I do not feel like they are helping me anymore than what we are learning from the book and in class. I feel most of the things I find on twitter are repetitive.      To find a teachers website page I went to my old high school's website to see if they had anything like this for their teachers because I did not remember them having a website. I did find though, that they have on their website a picture of every teacher and a link with their name that connects you to a page with their information on it. There was not much on their other than, their name, subject they taught, and their email. Today is about the Web 2.0 tools and what are not allowed in classroom. We were assigned to listen to a podcast about the issue and write about which one we would have liked to use and why some of the tools are no longer allowed; however, i was not able to open up the podcast and could not find it online.      I did some research online about Web 2.0 tools since the podcast link was not working and I found a tool that I like and might use in my future classroom. It's a mapping tool called, Popplet and it allows students to work and collaborate with other students.      This is my first time ever using Twitter. I have never been big on social media and have never had a need for Twitter, but after making my Twitter I found it very easy to navigate. I am following several Educational accounts, which usually have good articles. I especially like the Educational Technology account I am following, they usually share really good articles. However, I do not believe I will use Twitter in my classroom. I am all for using technology in the classroom but I do not believe social media has a place in the classroom. The students will get enough social media outside of school and so I personally do not think it is necessary for me or beneficial for my students to have/use more social media.      There is a divide between the two generations of technology raised and non-technology raised people.      I was not aware there were so many ELA Technology Standards, however, I do feel i have the knowledge and am prepared to use several of them. Such as, "Multimedia" Literature, "Multimedia" Informational Text, "Multimedia" History/Social Studies, "Consuming" Technology Standards, "Write to Explain/Inform", "Use Technology",  and "Use Digital Media".    I have used Microsoft (MS) Word for many years now, I use it daily just about. I mostly use it to write papers and use notes; though, sometimes for miscellaneous things that are not related to school, which is not that usual. Without MS Word, college would have been very different and I would not have been able to get papers done, notes takes, or turned in paper on many software devices that check for plagiarism. Though I believe students probably use MS Word than teachers and professors, I still have plenty of teacher that use it often. I have seen all my professors use it, most commonly for syllabi.    Something that influences teachers to use technology in the classroom is so that it makes their life easier, keeping things, such as lesson plans, organized and in one place. It is much easier to keep all their information in one place and there are many sites on the web that teachers can use for free to keep their lessons plans together and see other teachers lessons plans, as well. It is also beneficial for them to use technology in the classroom because it is strongly encouraged by the government and standards they give teachers. For students, however, technology in the classroom is influenced by other reasons. Most students will be accustomed technology and interested in it, so it is a way gain interest in subject matter. I do not have much experiences with technology, except how to use a cell phone, computer, and my fiancées X-Box to watch Netflix. I can also use basic power-point, word, and Prezi, because, you know, these are a necessity to be an actual college student. I hope this class will help me with the basics skills I will need to help me in the teaching world. I graduate this December and then will be applying for teaching positions and it will be necessary to be able to work with technology, especially since the teaching world is more and more technology everyday. I also hope to learn some tips on do's and don'ts when using technology with students. For example, is it okay to use social media with students if it helps them get more involved with their studies?
